Xinhua: Russian, U.S. top diplomats discuss Syria after Turkish offensive

MOSCOW, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson discussed ensuring stability in northern Syria by phone Saturday, after Turkey started bombing Kurdish forces in Afrin in northern Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Lavrov and Tillerson also discussed promoting a peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict under the auspices of the United Nations, which should be facilitated by the Syrian National Dialogue Congress to be held in Russia's city of Sochi with broad participation.

WNI Editor: This Turkish military incursion into Syria is an invasion, and it is being done even though all the players in the region .... Russia and the U.S. included .... have warned Turkey not to do it. I can only speculate on how Russia and the U.S. are going to respond .... but my gut is telling me that if Turkey does not stop there will be blow-back, with the Russians and Syrian armies targeting  Turkey's Syrian allies starting with Syrian Free Army .... When I say Erdogan is under drug, I am not joking 100%. He will have to retreat and explain to his people why....good luck!
