Chinese Nationalism On Full Display With Chinese President Xi Jinping's Closing Speech At The National People's Congress

CNN: China's Xi Jinping pushes nationalist view in strong speech to nation

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a confident, nationalistic speech Tuesday, emphasizing China's desire to take up its "due place in the world."

Speaking at the closure of the 13th National People's Congress, a meeting of the country's rubber-stamp parliament, Xi said the "rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has become the biggest dream of the Chinese people."

"We are resolved to fight the bloody battle against our enemies ... with a strong determination to take our place in the world," Xi said.

The speech followed the removal of constitutional term limits on the presidency, potentially clearing Xi to lead China for life, and at many points in his speech he harkened back to the country's imperial past which critics have accused him of seeking to emulate.

This is the moment where one side will have to blink.

Is China right in demanding a "due place in the world?" sure, but what does "due" mean?
China is a nation of 1.5 billion people, that's pretty exactly 20% of the world. That's a lot. So what does China want? Respect?
Respect is earned. No shortcuts for bullies. No shortcuts for thieves who steal patents, IP, trade goods. No shortcuts for bullies who bully all their neighbors. There won't be respect for a nation that ARMS north Korea and almost pushes the world to nuclear war, while threatening the US with war.

Your "due place", with all respect, is 2nd or 3rd place at best. Everyone can run a nation and steal and thieve and lie to their own population and get rich of the rest of the world while running torture cells and suppressing freedom, as happened in Hong Kong despite Chinese promises.

So sit down, Xi bear.

Well they do have a model to follow and so far they aren't making the same mistakes.
