Putin Orders Partial Withdrawal of Russian Troops From Syria

RT: Putin orders withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria during surprise visit to Khmeimim Airbase

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria. He gave the command during a surprise visit to Khmeimim Airbase in Syria’s Latakia province on Monday morning.

A “significant part” of the Russian military contingent in Syria should return to Russia, Putin announced, addressing Russian military personnel at Khmeimim. The order to withdraw followed the defeat of “the most battle-hardened grouping of international terrorists” by the Russian and Syrian militaries in the space of two years.

WNU Editor: These announcements have been done before, but this is the first time that Putin is officially announcing it himself, and in Syria to boot. And as to how many troops will be withdrawn .... no specifics on that.

Lori,

You might want to be careful about posting anything here that might be construed as respectful of Russia, its military, or its leadership. Someone might accuse you of being a troll. With that said I have noticed how respectfully Russians and their leaders appear to treat their military in general.

This is in contrast to how America's leaders treat US military servicemen and women. Generally the approach appears to be give them a parade now and then while providing them with substandard equipment all while grinding them to bits sending on fruitless missions around the world that deplete them and make absolutely no sense for America's national security or economic interests.

Fusion,

As you say, this appears to be the strategy all while further depleting the US military while doing nothing that actually advances America's interests. While it is possible, that some of this situation could have improved at the margins under president Trump, I have yet to see it and our military has yet to see it as well.

THis is what gen. Surovikin said about the plans for withdrawal:
"Upon completion of the operation to defeat the Islamic State in Syrian territory the military contingent was ordered and has already begun to withdraw forces, including 25 aircraft (23 different planes and two Ka-52 helicopters) and military personnel - the military police force, the commando unit, the field hospital and the mine-clearing center," he said. "The remaining force will be able to cope with its tasks as effectively." Source: http://tass.com/defense/980230

Not sure why you say that about Am leaders treating our military. After all, just look at the budget they get, and they get stuff via our leaders that they do not even ask for or want! and, additonally, Trump now surrounds himself with military people.
