Has President Obama's Policy To Fight Terrorism Been A Success?

Mark Thompson, Time: The Jury’s Out on Obama’s Terror Fight

His claim of success could collapse if there's another 9/11-scale attack

If you said on Sept. 12, 2001, that there wouldn’t be another major terror attack on U.S. soil over the next 15 years, most Americans wouldn’t have believed you. Yet, that’s just what has happened. Following the deaths of 2,996 people on 9/11, there has been a flurry of terror attacks—the biggest one killing 49 at an Orlando nightclub in June—but nothing like the horror visited on New York City, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field.

Politicians like to take credit for pretty much anything, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that President Obama defended his counter-terrorism record in a speech Tuesday. It is likely to be the last major speech on national security of his presidency.

WNU Editor: The entire Middle East is in conflict .... the Afghan government is not winning the war against the Taliban .... and many parts of Muslim North Africa are now in the grips of insurgencies that show no signs of  ending. This is an Islamic civil war .... a conflict that goes back centuries .... and in this mix the U.S. is involved in every fight .... directly or indirectly .... which has made many sides in this huge conflict vowing revenge against the United States. Will there be another major terror attack on the U.S. in the future .... I would not bet against that .... the anger and hate is certainly out there. Would I blame President Obama for such an attack .... even if it should happen today .... I would say no. There is only so much that one can do ..... and sometimes ... like 9/11 .... the enemy is incredibly lucky.

I would not describe the enemy as "lucky" on 9/11. In actuality, it was the United States who was "lucky" on 9/11. The United States was "lucky" the casualties weren't higher and the United States has been incredibly "lucky" that there has not ben another 9/11 style attack or worse since 9/11 on American soil. As such, it is the United States and not the enemy who has been incredibly "lucky!!"

I would further add that the United States was "lucky" it took as long as it did for this enemy to mount a successful 9/11 style attack. Actually I prefer the term "blessed" over the term "lucky." The point is essentially the same.

This was not a case of the enemy having good fortune on 9/11. This was the culmination of a well planned and executed attack by a very powerful and very determined enemy. As well planned and executed as the attack was combined with the strength of the enemy it have been unreasonable for anyone to expect a failed attack.

Given how woefully unprepared the United States was compared with the enemy, the attacks against the Pentagon and the Capitol should have been successful been with the Capitol and the Pentagon suffering the same complete destruction at the World Trade Center.

On 9/11 it was we 9the United States) and not the enemy who were incredibly lucky that the more casualties did not result and that the damage was limited as it was. Very respectfully it seems some still have trouble grasping the nature of this enemy or the danger it poses. We have also been incredibly fortunate not to have had another 9/11 type attack.

As to how to fight this, the best approach is probably some type of "quarantine." Essentially extricate ourselves from Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, and all other places where the "Islamic Civil War" is raging RIGHT NOW, cut off all aid to these regions, place an indefinite moratorium on immigration to the US from these regions, and try and limit all interaction between us and them as much as is possible.

This combined with close monitoring of the Mosques and Islamic organizations within the United States may at least give us a fighting chance at defending the United States. It is not the optimal solution but it is probably the only one we have at this point. Each country will need to decide upon strategies that work for them based upon their needs and interests.

How many people did the community (dis)organizer lift out of poverty in his part of Chicago?

Did the moron have an SMART goals.

https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/smart-goals.htm

With the X amount of money did he lift Y amount of people out of poverty.

Lifting himself out of poverty with his cut of X does not count.

Obama was not successful in Chicago. To wit it became Chiraq.
