Did Former Commander Of NATO Forces U.S. General Breedlove Plotted To Start A Proxy War Against Russia In Ukraine?

The Intercept: Hacked Emails Reveal NATO General Plotting Against Obama on Russia Policy

RETIRED U.S. AIR FORCE Gen. Philip Breedlove, until recently the supreme commander of NATO forces in Europe, plotted in private to overcome President Barack Obama’s reluctance to escalate military tensions with Russia over the war in Ukraine in 2014, according to apparently hacked emails from Breedlove’s Gmail account that were posted on a new website called DC Leaks.

Obama defied political pressure from hawks in Congress and the military to provide lethal assistance to the Ukrainian government, fearing that doing so would increase the bloodshed and provide Russian President Vladimir Putin with the justification for deeper incursions into the country.

Breedlove, during briefings to Congress, notably contradicted the Obama administration regarding the situation in Ukraine, leading to news stories about conflict between the general and Obama.

But the leaked emails provide an even more dramatic picture of the intense back-channel lobbying for the Obama administration to begin a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine.

WNU Editor: I do not know if these hacked emails are genuine (it looks like they are) .... but I do know that when I heard that General Breedlove was being replaced as top NATO commander .... I for one gave a huge sigh of relief. I have mentioned more than once in this blog that if General Breedlove's recommendations were accepted on what to do in Ukraine .... that conflict would be infinitely far worse than what it is now .... with global consequences. We also now know through these emails that he was pushing an agenda contrary to stated White House policy .... and doing so on the side. Can anyone say .... rogue General.

So I'd enjoy hearing all you anti Obama guys and pro Russia guys explain to me how Obama once again made a mistake, trying to hold back confrontation or to fire the rough and ready general ready for conflict with Russia. How has he messed up or how did his non hawk attitude somehow compromise us or any security. It is called statemenship, guarding against further incursion by Russia, but not playing chicken with the other nuclear superpower. Seems balanced to me, at least in Eastern Europe. I hope Asia pacific stays back from the abyss.

Misbehavior of an subordinate does not in itself validate or invalidate the policies of their superior.

Dude, your Putin fan crush is annoying, the RUSSIAN MILITARY is OVERRATED, always has been and always will be. You continue to pump up Russian abilities, while downplaying the west especially the US. The Russians get beat on a regular basis and you continue to talk up how great and tough they are and will be against a NATO - US force. It would not even be close my friend. They cannot even handle the Chechens or the Ukrainians what makes you think they would rout a US-NATO force. Hell I beat the three Baltic nations can beat them by themselves. sheesh. This is the one thing I have a problem with you about, you seem reasonable on most everything accept your Putin fan boy crush. If Russia is so great why do you not live there now?

Steve,

If Rusaia, with or without Putin, wanted to invade the Ukraine there is not a damn thing the Ukrops, or anyone else could, or would, do about it. You don't have to be the best to beat a bunch of draftees and their fascist minders.

If the Ukrops were so strong, how come they couldn't manage to even put up a fight against a fraction of Russia's "loser" military?

Meanwhile, the never ending drug trade protection racket that is the NATO mission in Afghanistan continues with the Taliban growing bolder and stronger daily. If they can't beat a bunch of hill people, I don't see them hanging in there to long against the Russians...hell Zimbabwe would probably give them a run for their money.

If the Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania SS grenadier re-enactment club can take the Russians, let 'em. They and the Ukrops can get off of the welfare and take care of themselves - or straight to hell for all I care.

Regardless, once the missiles start flying the international shit talking version of "my Dad can beat up your Dad" will be as redundant as "Glory to the heroes!!".

Incidentally, I'd rather be a Putun fan boy than a walking transparent dodge for supporters if Islamo fascists and drug dealers.

Technically, Gen. Breedlove was Commander, NATO Forces Europe.

Technically, his boss was Secretary General Stollenburg, and the Secretary General and the NATO Council were resposible for the politics and Policy.

So, as US General, he was actively working to undermine the Policies of NATO, The Atlantic Council, The EU, The US President and the IS Pentagon, to provoke armed conflict with Russia.

And he was probably doing it on behalf of the Cookie Monster's Coven in the State Department.
