The Hill: Trump’s NATO criticism wins positive reviews

Donald Trump’s criticisms of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are winning positive attention from analysts who argue the military alliance should be getting more scrutiny from Washington.

“When Trump talks about NATO being obsolete, it is dismissed as crazy rhetoric,” said Job Henning, a defense analyst who recently wrote a piece advocating for broad reform of the alliance. “But he is actually asking questions that are pretty similar to what a lot of people have been asking.

Trump made headlines over the weekend by questioning NATO’s relevance and arguing its members aren’t paying their fair share. The comments came just before NATO officials arrived in Washington for meetings with President Obama and the Pentagon.

WNU Editor: From a political and media narrative (two weeks ago) that Donald Trump's view of NATO is wrong .... to the current narrative that "maybe" he is right. Sighhh ... the political season is definitely in full swing. What's my take .... this debate on NATO is long overdue.

NATO countries are supposed to spend 2% to 4% of GDP on Defense. The Eurotrash refused. Therefore the Donald has his opening.

The target's 2%, and that's not contributions to NATO, that's just Defence spending.

NATO's mandate expired more than two decades ago and has been much abused since. We shouldn't wait for the winds of change, whatever the season, in the U.S. Canada should lead the way and pull out.

NATO entanglements and imperial adventures have done nothing but hurt our reputation, militarize -in a really low brow fashion- political discourse, and rack up costs.
