Islamic State Forces Are Now Pushing Deeper Into The Syrian Capital Of Damascus

BBC: Islamic State battles Syrian rebel forces in Damascus

Syrian rebel forces have come under attack from Islamic State (IS) on the southern outskirts of Damascus.

Militants from the jihadist group are reportedly battling Jaysh al-Islam fighters in the Qadam district and those of Ajnad al-Sham in nearby Asali.
The fighting has brought IS closer than ever to the heart of the capital.

Correspondents say it is unclear whether the attacks will be limited to rebel-held areas or will later shift to the government-controlled city centre.

IS militants launched the assaults on Qadam and Asali over the weekend from Hajar al-Aswad, where they have been based since July 2014.

WNU Editor: Capturing Damascus would be an incredible prize for the Islamic State .... and a disaster for the entire region. Fortunately .... the Islamic State lacks the resources to accomplish such a goal ... at least for now.

This report is a full of BS, which make people belive that IS is closing to the center of the capital, which is not true at all. IS (to be clear just a group which joined IS not so long ago, not that original IS troops made this group) fighting rebels around Yarmuk camp, and thats it. They simply have no enough fighter to make a danger to the city, and not even to the rebels, who are already weakened by the fightings in the last 3 years.

In a case, if IS would capture the city at one point of time in the future, it's more likely that they would come from the east, from the direction of Tadmur (they already advancing on that axis, and already not so far away), not from an inside attack. Instead of such usless news, they could report about something that real, like the Russian made BTR-82s were used in Latakia, combined with russian speaking in a veryfied video, or the very intense offensives led by both SAA and rebels on Al-Ghaab over the last month.

Mlacix .... I am also sceptical that ISIS would be able to "take" Damascus. But it is amazing to see the major wire services and news outlets taking the bait to carry this story.

As to Russia's growing involvement in the Syrian conflict .... I concur .... that is a story that is not being covered properly nor fighting by other groups in other parts of the country.
