Reuters: North Korea warns U.S. about pre-emptive strike 'if necessary'
(Reuters) - North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su Yong said on Tuesday that his country had the power to deter an "ever-increasing nuclear threat" by the United States with a pre-emptive strike if necessary.
His rare speech at the U.N.-backed Conference on Disarmament drew a rebuke from U.S. Ambassador Robert Wood, who urged Pyongyang to stop making threats and rid itself of nuclear weapons.
Ri said joint military exercises currently being staged by South Korea and the United States were "unprecedentedly provocative in nature and have an especially high possibility of sparking off a war."

Is this not just more of the same?
North Korea is as dangerous as China wants it to be.
IMO, if China put out word to the top tier of generals, the chihuahua would be immediately curbed
I disagree Aizino.
Perhaps once a time, under the previous North Korean regime, that would be true, to a certain point. And perhaps would be true not long after Kim Jong Un took power.
But now?
Past events have shown a different North Korea, one that even China would have difficulty reigning in.
With the purging of several officers and generals that has been going on for sometime, it is unlikely that China will have any influence over these ones...
I agree with your analysis D. Plowman. North Korea is a different place. In the past, the Kims always listened to and respected what the Chinese were saying and their allies in Pyongyang were always safe. Today .... no one is safe, and Chinese influence is minimal. This is what makes the entire situation unpredictable .... and very dangerous.
