Ukraine Ceasefire Near Collapse

Pro-Russia Separatists Target Key Assets In Eastern Ukraine -- L.A. Times

Pro-Russia separatists and Ukrainian government forces have abandoned all pretense of adhering to a cease-fire agreed to a month ago as the rebels have stepped up their assault on the Donetsk airport in hopes of gaining control of eastern Ukraine's most important transport hub.

A spokesman for the National Security and Defense Council reported Tuesday that five government soldiers had died in the fighting over the past 24 hours. Col. Andriy Lysenko told reporters in Kiev that the separatists had also suffered casualties in the escalating battle and confirmed that Ukrainian troops had returned fire after being attacked by multiple Grad rockets launched by "terrorists and Russian mercenaries."

Fighting has died down in much of the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk since a Sept. 5 agreement brokered in the Belarus capital of Minsk called for both sides to cease hostilities and exchange prisoners. But a rebel push for control of the badly damaged airport has steadily intensified, exposing those still hunkered down in the city that was formerly home to a million people to battle hazards.

My Comment: As the above video from the Ukrainian defense ministry reveals .... fighting and casualties are being reported throughout eastern Ukraine. And while there is a attempt to stop the fighting .... I just do not see the Ukrainian military withdrawing from their positions, and I certainly do not see the rebels putting a stop to their offensive. All signs are now indicating a resumption of the civil war.

Since the start of the "ceasefire" the "ceasefire" has been near "collapse" in MSM articles about twice a week.

The Ukraine Army is in no shape to go on an offensive.

The DPA and the LPA are in no shape to go on a general offensive,

But, as long as Donetsk is being shelled from the airport, they will keep trying to push the Ukraine Army from the airport.

To go all Game of Thrones, "Winter is Coming", which may crush all desire for a military solution off the page for the Ukraine,

Or it may cause an escalation in the militarization of the Ukraine,

But War won't be back on the table until after Mud Season, also known as Spring.

Low level asymmetrical warfare is in the forecast. IEDs, sniping, random killings, etc. .... that is what winter is going to be all about. Causality rates of a few soldiers/police/militia per day.

And then the "mud season" .... sighhh .... do I ever remember the rain and the mud.
