Former Military Brass ‘Shocked,’ ‘Angered’ Over USS Gabrielle Giffords -- The Daily Caller

Despite the country’s respect for former Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, not everyone in the military community was thrilled with Navy Secretary Ray Mabus’ Friday announcement that the Navy’s new Independence variant littoral combat ship (LCS) will be named for her.

“The Navy motto is Semper Fortis, Always Courageous,” said Mabus during the Friday ceremony with Giffords, who was shot last year during an assassination attempt in Tucson.

My Comment: I guess Navy Secretary Ray Mabus is starting to feel the heat. What is my take, the politics of naming ships is nothing new. As to those who are complaining, they should not be too angry .... after-all he could have named this ship the USS Bella Abzug, USS Sean Penn, or the USS Cesar Chavez .... oooppsss .... there is a USS Cesar Chavez.

USNS Cesar Chavez - it's Military Sealift Command. Not regular Navy.
